Pianist Yilin Li sees each performance as an opportunity to connect with listeners, inviting them into a rich tapestry of musical storytelling. Her repertoire ranges broadly from Mozart and Schubert to Dutilleux and the music of today. As a soloist, Yilin has performed with The Orchestra Now, the East Tennessee Symphony Orchestra and the Todi Music Master Orchestra. She was named the winner of the Bard Conservatory Concerto Competition, and earlier, Yilin was awarded third prize at the Southern American Chopin Competition. Besides in the US, she has performed in Italy during the Todi Music Festival, and has played a concert at the Shenyang Culture Artistic Center which is one of the most renowned performance venues in China.
With a passionate commitment to chamber music, Yilin has experience with varied types of mixed ensembles from duo sonatas to piano sextet. Recent chamber performance engagements have brought her to the Bowdoin International Music Festival and the Maine Chamber Music Festival. She recently performed the Beethoven Archduke Piano Trio, collaborated with professor Raman Ramakrishnan who was the former cellist of the Horszowski trio. This was an invaluable opportunity for her to experience with professional concert musicians.
Yilin is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at Peabody institute of Johns Hopkins University with professor Alexander Shtarkman, as a recipient of the Kaye Scholarship. She received her B.M. in Piano Performance and B.A. in French Studies at Bard College-Conservatory on full scholarship. She has studied with Professors Gilles Vonsattel, Rieko Aizawa, Benjamin Hochman, and Vladimir Petrov.
Besides music, Yilin is interested in French philosophy, musicals and literature. She has contributed writing to the Bard translation magazine Sui Generis with excerpts from work Un barrage contre le Pacifique (The Sea Wall) by Marguerite Duras.
